Seed to Feed! What Does That Even Mean?

Photo by Mike Christy, AZ Daily Star

The Garden Kitchen is a seed to feed (from the crops to your table!) program that provides an interactive, hands-on environment for children and adults to learn the importance of good nutrition and physical activity.  The goal of this program is to teach community members how to grow, buy, properly store, and cook nutritious, low cost food.  Through food demonstrations, hands-on cooking lessons, and gardening education, the Garden Kitchen team aims to teach all of these elements in order to help community members improve their lives.
The Garden Kitchen is located on 2205 South South Avenue and was created as a joint effort by Pima County and the University of Arizona. Hours of the Garden Kitchen can be confirmed by contacting Daniel McDonald ( mcdonald@cals.arizona.edu).
Opportunities for volunteer work are available to the public.
Other amenities that the Garden kitchen offers free to the public are: interactive gardens, where residents will see effective ways to raise vegetables in small spaces- even in containers- while also learning tipcs on composting, worm farming, and water harvesting. Also, video conferencing that will allow chefs to cook on site and either tape the demonstration for later distribution or broadcast the events live to schools, hospitals, or other facilities in the community.
